Gore Verbinski’s The Ring is a solid movie a glossy, well-made adaptation of the original 1998 Japanese thriller, Ringu. The film, about a young journalist attempting to uncover the mystery behind an odd VHS tape that, just a few days after watching it, viewers wind up dead, is remarkably clever if a bit gimmicky.
