Logitech has once again sent out an email stating that the Google TV upgrade is on its way. This time they go as far as stating it will arrive before the holidays. This rings a little hollow since we also received an email prior to Halloween stating that the update is on its way.
The disconcerting thing for me is that the indication is that anyone purchasing a new Logitech Revue will get the update immediately. Giving favoritism to new customers is nothing new but given that Logitech has already announced they are discontinuing the Revue it frustrates me further. My displeasure may be misplaced as it was Google that took so long to present the update and then failed to deliver on all of their promises. They went on to provide the update to other business partners such as Sony and left Logitech holding their hat. In turn Logitech has left its customers holding onto something else in a vain attempt to protect themselves from the swift kick of “promises failed to deliver”.
The entire endeavor seems a waste of my time. I have become so enamored with Roku, WD Live, XBMC and Windows Media Center that I don’t have the time or energy to waste on Google and Logitech getting their act together. A device that had so much promise is little more than a drink coaster for me at this point. It would take an epic showing from this update to get me to start touting the virtues of Google TV.
As it stands I have check my Logitech Revue once again and the update is still not available. Maybe I will take another look next month.
